Week number two has been very interesting for us. Indeed we are extremely tired, which is worse because neither of us can nap (I think we are overly tired!!). I think the first week we ran on adrenaline, and that has finally worn off. Parenting is definitely something you learn as you go, and we are finding there is a process you need to figure out for your own baby.
For instance, when she cries, we run through our list of items to check....hungry/feeding, diaper change, swaddle, pacifier, holding her, walking with her, laying her on our chests, burping her, etc. We run through these at least 20 times a day I think, and hope that one works...ha! Last night, we had our first almost all-overnight crying episode, where we really couldn't console her...it is definitely frustrating, but when we look back years from now, we know we will cherish even these frustrating times as well. We will forget the lack of sleep and the feeling of helplessness that we have during these times trying to console her. It's all part of being a new parent!
During this last week, we've learned that we probably have had too many visitors for Sam, and that she has gotten over-stimulated at some points, so now we are "scheduling" this better :) We have also figured out her nap schedule starts around lunch and goes through the afternoon (until we feed her), then back to sleep again for her through the evening. However, at night she is normally wide awake, as she is all morning. Knowing this has helped us too...because we can plan to get things done during the afternoon - We should be napping, but instead we are doing chores, taking showers, eating, and trying to spend time with each other.
Yesterday, we took her to Costco in the morning....she did well. Phil carried her in his arms while there, but that was all that was needed to make her happy!! Just some daddy attention :) Earlier in the week, we went to dinner with her to celebrate my parents anniversary...she did great...slept the entire time! So she's getting out some....but not to crowded places just yet. We go super early to places to avoid lots of people.
I forgot to mention in my last post that her 1 week pediatric appt went really well. She looks really healthy and weights 9lbs 13oz (she lost some weight after being born, but it's now back to her birth weight)....So we are pleased that she's growing as she should be, and that we must be doing something right...ha!
Well, that's it for now....Sam is resting, so I need to make me some lunch :) More updates coming after week 3!!
Have a great weekend....
